Video Features of GH5

Videographers will certainly like that the Panasonic GH5 offers unlimited 4K video recording.

The best feature of the Panasonic GH5 has to be its new 6K PHOTO mode. This function doubles the resolution captured, to 18MP, or about 6000 x 3000. The Panasonic GH5 also increases the frame rate in 4K Photo mode to 60fps.

The GH5 is the first mirrorless camera with 4K video at 60/50p. Adding these faster frame rates means that shooters no longer have to sacrifice resolution to get slow motion or a simply a crispy, faster rate of capture. Panasonic adds internal 4:2:2 10-bit image capture for 4K video at up to 30 fps.

Extra features held back for firmware updates

  • V-Log L is an optional (paid) extra, same as GH4 – $98

  • ALL-I (Intra) 10bit 422 1080p at 200 Mbps – free firmware update later in year
  • ALL-I (Intra) 10bit 422 4K at 400 Mbps – free firmware update later in 2017
