The high-end Sony A9 full-frame E-mount camera and FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM lens are expected to be announced sometime in 2017.
According to recent rumors, the upcoming flagship model will not be a megapixel monster. Instead, Sony Alpha a9 will have very fast speed, high ISO range, fast FPS and low megapixels.
The sensor will be brand new but it’s not clear what will be the megapixel count. The previous rumors said the Sony A9 will have an amazing 72MP sensor but seems that it will not!

The name of this camera is NOT confirmed yet, but it will be placed above the Sony A7-series and have dual card slots. The main competitors of Sony A9 will be Nikon D5 and Canon EOS 1D-X Mark II.
