Panasonic GH5 development announced! Comes with 4K 60p, 10bit 4:2:2

Panasonic GH5 development announced at the Photokina 2016 event. The hybrid mirrorless camera will be the first to shoot 4K/60p and 10bit 4:2:2 internally.

The GH5 will also provide a 6K Photo mode that will extract 18MP stills from burst footage or 8MP stills from 60p 4K clips. The Panasonic GH5 camera is expected to be released in the first half of 2017. There is no details about sensor or the pricing of the camera yet.

A prototype of GH5 will be on display at Panasonic’s Photokina 2016 booth. The company will show the video-centric MILC along with a new Leica-branded series of DG Vario-Elmarit F2.8-4.0 lenses, with 12-60mm, 8-18mm and 50-200mm zooms. … Continue reading


Zeiss Loxia 85mm f/2.4 Sonnar FE lens officially announced

The new Zeiss Loxia 85mm f/2.4 Sonnar FE lens officially announced.

Designed for Sony full-frame E mount system cameras, the Loxia 2.4/85 is a new portrait lens from Zeiss. The construction consists of seven lens elements in seven groups. It has been designed for digital sensors and is based on an optimized ZEISS Sonnar design.

The telephoto prime optic has a minimum object distance of 0.80 meters. The manual focus ring has a rotation angle of 220 degrees and enables the subtlest variations of focusing. The large aperture of f/2.4 combined with the high-quality optical design ensures an appealing bokeh. The electronic interface transfers lens data (EXIF) as well as focus movements.

Canon EOS M5 mirrorless camera officially announced

The EOS M5 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera officially announced by Canon.

The new camera features a 24.2 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and Dual Pixel CMOS AF. Canon’s EOS M5 has a DIGIC 7 processor and a built-in 2.36M-dot EVF. It also has a DSLR-level AF speed and accuracy, 9fps continuous shooting, and Full HD 60p movies.

The 3-inch 1.62M-dot touchscreen tilts up by 85° and downward by 180°. It supports touch-focusing even when using the EVF. Wi-Fi and NFC are offered along with low energy Bluetooth that provides a continuous connection.

The Canon EOS M5 will start shipping from November 2016. The price of the camera will be $979 for body-only. It will sell for $1099 with the EF-M 15-45mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM or with the just-announced EF-M 18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM for $1479. … Continue reading

Venus Optics has announced the new Laowa 7.5mm F2 and 15mm F2 FE Zero-D lenses.

The Laowa 15mm F2 FE Zero-D is the world’s fastest lens for Sony full frame E-mount cameras. The Laowa 7.5mm F2 is the world’s widest optic for Micro Four Thirds cameras.

Sony has introduced the E PZ 18-110mm F4 G OSS lens for Super 35mm and APS-C format cameras.

The E-mount power zoom lens provides a focal length starts at 18mm wide angle and extends to 110mm at the telephoto end. It has a 6.1x high zoom ratio, even with inner focus.
